Casino operator to close Liverpool office

CASINO operator Genting is planning to close its Liverpool office and ‘relocate’ staff to its UK headquarters in Birmingham.

The back office staff are a legacy from Liverpool-headquartered Stanley Leisure, which was taken over by the Malaysian gaming firm in 2006.

The company told TheBusinessDesk that 50 to 60 staff would be affected by the decision and all would be offered the opportunity to relocate to its Birmingham headquarters.

In a statement the company said: “Earlier this week we began consultations to relocate support staff from offices in Liverpool to Birmingham, where we already have a large support function.”

Genting has also announced that  it could be set to close one of its prime sites in Birmingham.

The venue at the Star City complex, which employs 220 staff, will be axed to enable the company to focus on its prime casino site in the region, the £150m Resorts World Birmingham complex, next to the NEC.

It said: “We are also considering the future of our Star City casino in Birmingham. It operates in the shadow of our Resorts World facility, which offers some of the best leisure facilities in the world including an international casino, hotel and shopping centre.

“We have begun consultations with our staff and will make a decision in the near future. Our staff remain a priority and there are many opportunities for them in our facilities across the region and our estate nationally.”

Genting has two of three casinos in Liverpool – on Renshaw Street and Queen Square.
