Your top 10 – Deal of the week; accountants on top; follow your dream; and enter Business Masters 2017

THE deal of the week was environmental, health, safety and engineering services company RSK Group’s acquisition of a Midlands-based rival.

The deal to buy ADAS was backed by the Business Growth Fund, which is also supporting the company’s longer-term growth plans.

RSK provides environmental impact assessments, clean-up operations and geotechnical analyses on major infrastructure projects in the UK and worldwide and is currently working on the Mersey Gateway Project.

Founded in 1989 by chief executive officer Dr Alan Ryder, RSK is now the biggest private environmental consultancy in the UK, with a turnover of more than £100m and around 1,500 staff worldwide.

RSK’s acquisition of ADAS will add new services to its portfolio, including expertise in land management, crop and food production, specialist chemical risk assessment and town planning.

In ever-popular professional news, accountancy firm Beever and Struthers is celebrating its best year to date.

The firm, which has with 22 partners and 200 staff at offices in Manchester, Blackburn and London, achieved its highest turnover on record in 2016 with income totalling £11.8m, representing growth of more than 7%.

Most new clients – approximately 70% of the total – appointed the firm following referrals from existing clients.

Do what you love and you’ll never work another day in your life, so they say.

The trio are Jeff Jones, former head of advisory at BDO, John O’Brien ex-head of KPMG’s Transaction Services group and Jen Smith, who was head of advisory marketing at BDO.

The team say they dedicated a lot of time thinking about what makes the perfect cycling trip, and then they made it happen. Good for them!
