Planning application in for Bolton flats

PLANS have been submitted for a new block of flats above the former Downtown bar in Bolton town centre.

An application to Bolton Council’s planning department has declared plans to build 81 flats on Bradshawgate, aimed at students and working professionals.

The building, owned by Empire Property Concepts Ltd, formerly housed individual offices and had been on sale with Lamb and Swift for almost £1m, before being sold in August.

The bottom floor of the property, formerly the bar, is currently being redeveloped to offer three commercial spaces.

Construction of the flats, if approved, could be finished by summer 2017, according to a spokesperson for the development firm.

The source also revealed to TheBusinessDesk.com that some basic works were currently being done in anticipation that the application will be approved.

They said: “It is a great location and it is an up-and-coming area.”

However, back in 2014, head of facilities management at the University of Bolton, Derek Rout told The Bolton News: “While the university acknowledges a choice of accommodation for our students is beneficial we do not believe there is demand for further private halls of residence in Bolton.”

The building already neighbours several student accommodation blocks, which have been heavily invested in over the past two years.
