Company fined for club promotion flyposting

High Court claim

A COMPANY behind the promotion of a Manchester club has been ordered to pay a total of £3,700 for flyposting in the Fallowfield area.

Fifth Leisure Ltd was fined £2,500, plus costs of £1,170 and a £30 victim of crime surcharge.

In April and May 2016, Manchester City Council officers discovered more than 30 illegally posted advertisements.

The posters – promoting events at First Leisure’s nightclub venue, Fifth Manchester – were attached to bus stops and other public and private property.

In June 2016, a representative of Fifth Leisure, interviewed under caution by council officers, admitted to the fly-posting offences.

Fifth Leisure pleaded guilty to all charges at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on 16 November 2016.

Cllr Nigel Murphy, Manchester City Council’s executive member for Neighbourhoods, said: “Flyposting is illegal, unsightly and costs the council time and money to clear up. Our Environmental Crimes team will continue to take enforcement action against anyone caught blighting our neighbourhoods in this way.

“The public can help us stamp out flyposting by reporting any issues they see in their area.  I urge residents to contact us about any similar incidents, so that we can pursue those responsible.”
