LAW firm DTM Legal has strengthened its core team with a number of key promotions and appointments across its Liverpool and Chester offices.

Associate Amanda Bailey joins DTM Legal from Knights law firm in Chester where she specialised in wills, trusts and tax planning. Amanda brings a wealth of experience to the company with particular expertise advising business owners in relation to succession planning.

She will work in the Chester office, using her strong background advising on domicile issues, estate administration and powers of attorney to bolster DTM’s corporate and commercial and private client offering.

The firm has also promoted two members of staff including an associate and a trainee.  

Sally Pilott, who was previously an associate, has been promoted to a Partner at DTM Legal. Sally is an experienced legal professional specialising in sales and acquisitions, commercial landlord and tenant and portfolio management.
 
Sally has been recognised in 2016’s Legal 500 and played a key role advising Liverpool-based investment and development group, Atmore on the sale of 44 properties, raising £20m.

Oliver Andrews, who is currently a trainee with DTM Legal, will permanently join the company’s property department upon his qualification in mid-January. Oliver will be working in the firm’s Liverpool office.

UK and European patent and trade mark attorneys Appleyard Lees has started 2017 with a number of internal promotions which will form a key part of the firm’s continued growth and staff development programme.

James Myatt and Christopher Mason are both promoted from patent attorney to associate in recognition of their continued contribution to the firm’s progress.

Myatt is based in the Appleyard Lees’ Manchester office and works with a range of clients in the food science, specialist materials and fuel chemistry sectors. James specialises in prosecuting and managing patent portfolios and has a wide client base.

Mason is based in the Leeds office and handles cases across a range of fields, from polymers to healthcare and mechanical devices, preparing and prosecuting patent applications globally. He also has particular expertise in advising on invention spotting and the development of new patent portfolios.

Appleyard Lees, which has more than 100 staff in its Manchester, Leeds and Halifax offices, offers a breadth of expertise covering a wide range of IP and related issues, from managing portfolios to risk assessments, patent landscaping and due diligence. Services include patents, trade marks, disputes as well as design and copyright.

BOUGHEY Distribution in the Cheshire village of Wardle near Nantwich has announced a new appointment which will further strengthen its business development team.

Business development manager Jason Ward joins the company from Pall-Ex, where he worked as UK and European business development manager in corporate sales for four years.

Prior to that he spent seven years at C Butts as business development manager and in operations management.

Ward has worked at Boughey previously, having spent several years in a number of departments of the Wardle-based company early in his career.

He is now back working alongside existing business development manager Steve Woodhead.

Ward will be particularly focused on growing new business opportunities for Boughey’s warehousing and distribution functions as well as for Palletline.

He said: “I can draw on my wide experience of the industry and my in-depth knowledge of Boughey to build new customer relationships and put into practice new ways of working. I am really excited by this massive opportunity.”

Boughey Distribution is an ambient grocery distribution and storage specialist.

From its Cheshire warehousing site it provides a quality warehouse and distribution service to anywhere in the UK, which encompasses collection, storage, repacking picking and delivery.

The business consolidates full loads from its customers – the food producers and importers – and ships them across the UK daily to all the major supermarkets, cash and carry and food service distribution depots.

PRECKFORTON Castle in Tarporley, Cheshire, has announced Jason Hodnett as executive head chef following Mark Ellis’ departure.

Hodnett, who appeared on BBC2’s Great British Menu in 2014 and 2015 representing the Central region, will start his new role this at the AAA-rosett establishment this month.

Previously head chef of the two-AA-rosette Raven hotel in Much Wenlock, Shropshire, Hodnett started his career at the Grade-II-listed Lord Hill hotel in Shrewsbury, Shropshire while training at Radbrook College.

Hodnett said: “I have huge aspirations for the property and will begin by building on the already solid reputation of the restaurant as well as continuing to deliver the high-quality menus to our future wedding couples. I honestly can’t wait to get started and bring a new lease of life to one of Cheshire’s most iconic hotels.”

Hotel director Michael Auld said: “We are truly thrilled to have such an exciting culinary talent, as Jason, joining the team. Jason has an infectious passion and enthusiasm for food and this comes across in the plates that he produces. We look forward to continuing to develop our food offering, with Jason leading the team.”

DATA, networking and telecommunications provider Pennine has recruited Stephen Duffy as its new group head of technical services.

His appointment follows the departure of former product and services director Geoff King who has retired following the sale of the business to the Nycomm Group. King joined Pennine in 1984 as a technician and following successive promotions joined the board in 2004.
 
Duffy worked closely with King prior to the sale and will report to Andrew Roberts who, having led Pennine as managing director, now sits on the Nycomm board.
 
He joins the Bury-based business from the HE sector and brings a considerable level of technical management and leadership experience from the University of Manchester where he took management responsibility for the School of Electrical Engineering and Electronics’ £200m estate, including the development of its world class specialist teaching and research facilities.
 
More recently Duffy undertook the role of head of technical services at Manchester Metropolitan University, where he spent nearly six years and was responsible for 200 staff across 35 different technical teams. Stephen influenced the strategic development of technical services as well as expanding the skill bases of employees under his management.

He said: “I am very much looking forward to working with managers and engineers to further develop Pennine’s technical support capability. Through the knowledge and experience I bring, I aim to make a significant contribution to the continued success of a fast growing business.”
