Engineering firm’s £1.1m Chilean deal

AN engineering company based in Middleton, Greater Manchester is celebrating after securing a Chilean export deal worth more than £1m, secured with the assistance of the Department for International Trade (DIT).

Trelleborg Flexible Containment Solutions designs, develops and manufactures a variety of flexible liquid containers for a wide range of application areas, including storage tank seals, fuel and water storage systems and oil spill response operations.

Its high-performance polymer products and systems are used in sectors as diverse as defence, oil and gas production and humanitarian aid.

With the support of DIT, Trelleborg developed a direct relationship with a publicly owned company which provides support to the Chilean army. The two parties have recently signed a contract worth £1.1m in Santiago, which may lead to up to three further contracts in period up to 2019.

Paul Stowers, the Department for International Trade’s deputy regional director for the North West said: “I’d like to congratulate Trelleborg on this substantial contract.

“The collaboration between our offices in Manchester, London and Santiago was instrumental to this contract being signed, and it’s an excellent example of how we’re able to offer businesses across the North West support on their export journey.

“Chile is a country with good political relations with the UK and a commitment to free trade, representing a great market for British businesses looking to export.

“I’d like to urge other businesses seeking new markets and wishing to expand in existing territories to follow Trelleborg’s lead and take advantage of the tailored advice and support available from DIT and the Exporting is GREAT campaign.”

Ray Jeffries, sales and marketing manager, Trelleborg Flexible Containment Solutions, said: “Had we not had the support of the Department for International Trade at home and abroad, I am very doubtful this contact would have been signed.

“This contract is a game-changer as it is a new product that we hope to sell to many other territories, including other Latin American countries. We are grateful for the Department for International Trade for helping us secure the first contact and kick-starting this momentous opportunity.”

The Exporting is GREAT initiative is a key element of the Government’s newly launched GREAT.gov.uk, a single digital destination for trade and investment, bringing together and connecting UK businesses, international buyers and international investors.
