Lawyer facing disciplinary over £1.6m investment fund allegations

THE chief executive of a Blackburn law firm is to face a disciplinary hearing over allegations that £1.6m was ‘improperly used’ for an investment fund.

Saimina Jan-Virmani, a solicitor and the chief executive of Joseph Frasier Solicitors, has been referred to the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal over a series of  five claims.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has said there is a case to answer over an allegation that she “used £1.6m received from an investment fund in circumstances in which it was improper to do so”.

It is also claimed that she “did not ensure that the intended use of the investment money was properly documented” and “did not exercise the degree of competence and care the public would expect of a solicitor”.

Allegations continue that she “did not pay the investment money into client account” and “did not run her firm in accordance with proper governance and sound financial/risk management principles”.

The unproven allegations, which were referred to the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal back in February 2016, have just been published and are subject to a tribunal hearing.
