‘Come on down’ for £8m of ERDF cash

Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership is encouraging bids for investment in projects from an £8m European Regional Development Fund allocation which aims to support the shift to a low carbon economy.

Developed by the LEP, the call aims to build the market in low carbon technologies, goods and services to deliver sustainable growth, mitigate the effects of climate and improve energy efficiency in the Cheshire and Warrington small business base.

It is looking for projects to come forward in a range of areas including the production and distribution of renewable energy, supporting energy efficiency and renewable energy use in enterprises, public infrastructure including public buildings and in the housing sector, the delivery of low carbon strategies for urban areas and research and innovation in low carbon technologies.

Bids must be for a minimum grant of £500,000 ERDF funding for a maximum of three years.

Francis Lee, head of EU Programmes at Cheshire and Warrington LEP, said: “The LEP is responsible for channelling European funding worth over £120m into projects that support the growth and development of local businesses, encourage innovation and efficiency, and drive the economic growth of our economy.

“Supporting the shift to a low carbon economy is vital to ensuring that economic growth is sustainable and mitigating the effects of climate change, which has opened the door to a wide range of opportunities in the low carbon market including changing technologies and growing global markets.

“This fund will enable small businesses to exploit this growth potential.”
