Neville kicks off Twitter war over property deal

Football star turned property mogul Gary Neville has kicked off a Twitter war of words with the agent that marketed a property on Manchester’s only remaining Georgian terraced street for £1m.

TheBusinessDesk has reported how the property at 19 St John Street, which has been a physiotherapists’ practice for the last 23 years, has been bought by the former Manchester United and England player.

A change of use planning application has also been submitted to Manchester City Council for its conversion back to residential use.

Edwards & Co, acting for married physiotherapists Phillip and Beryl Emm, confirmed the sale when contacted by TheBusinessDesk.

Neville Twitter war

Neville has tweeted: “Unprofessional, but totally in keeping with how you conducted the sale. I’m Delighted I manoeuvred around you and you didn’t get full fee.”

Edwards tweeted back: “Confidentiality is key @GNev2 – all we confirmed is what was already in the public domain.”

Neville retorted: “@edwardsco_mcr it wasn’t in the public domain at all and why would you comment anyway.”

Then ‏@manutdinsights tweeted: “@GNev2 dirty laundry in public is really rather crass, gaz. Handling business matters on twitter? Think about it, yeah?”

Neville then hit back: “@manutdinsights pipe down and read back what the agent has done!! They breached my confidentiality on a private sale !!”

However, property deals are posted for public access at the Land Registry. Its documentation shows Neville, who lives in Bolton, paid £1,050,000 for the freehold of the property on August 10, 2016.

Edwards & Co have declined to comment further, but TheBusinessDesk understands that Neville is not, and never has been, a client of the company.
