An architect who joined North West practice Frank Whittle Partnership as a student just over a decade ago has been made an associate partner.

Seb Salisbury has been involved in a range of high-profile design projects across the UK during his time at FWP.

They include spearheading the multi-million pound regeneration of Preston’s historic Guild Hall, which is creating a premier entertainment, arts and leisure hub for its owners The Rigby Organisation.

Salisbury has also developed and help deliver a number of modern sport stadiums for FWP’s clients, including AFC Fylde’s impressive Mill Farm complex and the planned new 12,000 capacity home for Football League club Scunthorpe United.

He also has a keen interest in heritage projects and has worked on numerous acclaimed restoration schemes.

FWP managing partner David Robinson said: “The decision to make Seb an Associate Partner of the practice reflects his commitment and development over the last ten years and it is thoroughly deserved.

“Seb initially joined as a student and has matured into an architect with very strong commercial instincts.

“In recent years he has sourced numerous new opportunities for FWP and he has helped to strengthen our relationship with some key clients in a range of sectors.

“He has a clear understanding of their requirements and is a highly-skilled concept designer. Seb has grown into an important member of the multi-disciplinary team we have here.”

FWP is headquartered in Preston but also has offices in Manchester and London. It is one of the biggest architecture, design and project management practices in the region.

Salisbury said: “I’m delighted to have been made an Associate Partner. I joined FWP as a student and the senior team here has played an important role in my career development. I’m extremely grateful for their support and encouragement.

“It’s also been tremendously rewarding to work in a practice that has such an interesting and varied portfolio of architectural and design projects.

“As a Prestonian, The Guild Hall project is especially satisfying. It is great to be playing a part in the vision to create such a vibrant cultural hub of entertainment, arts and leisure.”

International commercial law firm Hill Dickinson has taken on 41 apprentices since 2013 and is actively engaging to take on more.

Applications for its trailblazer apprentice programme close on March 31, with a fresh cohort of 10 apprentices to be employed across the firm’s Manchester and Liverpool offices from September this year.

Emily Barnes, a legal apprentice in the Business Services Group (BSG) based in Manchester, is now an apprentice ambassador at Hill Dickinson, a company founded in 1810.

A core part of the 19-year old’s role – alongside being a fee earner – involves travelling to schools and careers fairs around the region in a bid to help young people make informed choices about their career and education pathways.

Her mentor Jeff Middleton, Manchester-based partner and head of employment and pensions, said Hill Dickinson currently has 21 apprentices on its books, with seven employed in the BSG.

It also comes ahead of the 10th National Apprenticeship Week (NAW 2017) which brings together employers and apprentices from across England to celebrate the success of apprenticeships over the last decade.

Barnes, a former Wellington School Sixth Form pupil, Timperley, Cheshire said: “I’m currently doing a two-year apprenticeship in legal services, which will result in me gaining a level three certificate.

“For me, the apprentice route, was a unique way into practising law. I’ve known since I was 12 that I wanted to be a solicitor. So, I wanted to put myself in the best position to springboard my career.”
