Topping out takes place at £200m X1 Media City

Property investment consultancy Knight Knox and developer X1 have celebrated the topping out of the first tower of £200m X1 Media City, their landmark four-phase development overlooking its namesake, MediaCityUK.

In commemoration, a concrete square on the roof of the first phase was engraved with the initials of X1 and Knight Knox.

Among those in attendance were Knight Knox’s commercial director Andy Phillips and head of marketing Samantha Jones, as well as X1’s project manager Charlie Tombs and operations and regional director Melissa Green.

The development, designed by architects Falconer Chester Hall, will change the Salford Quays skyline with its four towers overlooking the waterfront.

When completed, the scheme will provide 1,100 high-end apartments.

It will comprise a range of luxury residences, from studio to three-bedroom apartments, as well as an on-site cinema, private gymnasium and secure underground parking.

Following the success of the previous phases of X1 Media City – with Towers 1, 2 and 3 now fully sold out – Tower 4 was released for sale in February 2017. Since then, 120 of its apartments have been sold.

Andy Phillips, commercial director at Knight Knox, said: “This is a significant point in the evolution of Salford Quays. Now that the construction of the first tower has reached this milestone, including the fitting-out of the lower floors, we are confident that when the site reaches completion it will stand out as top-quality investment purchase for investors and become a sought-after tenant destination, too.

“Salford Quays has long been seen as a buy-to-let hotspot and we have seen increased investor appetite as landlords are drawn to the area’s high yields and close proximity to key amenities like shops and restaurants. Excellent transport links also allow tenants to travel to and from the nearby Manchester City Centre with ease.”

The development will be let and block managed in its entirety by X1 Lettings, and the building work is being carried out by Vermont Construction.

Melissa Green, operations and regional director at X1, said: “Salford Quays has been the focal point of the city’s regeneration in recent years and, with X1 Media City being at the forefront of residential development in the area, we’re delighted that the first tower has now topped out.

“With its excellent location and unrivalled amenities, we’re expecting young professionals flocking to live in the media hub of Greater Manchester to snap up tenancies in a heartbeat! We can’t wait for all four towers to take pride of place on the Quays.”
