Planning approved for new Morecambe Travelodge

PLANNING has been approved for a £3m Travelodge hotel at Morecambe’s Arndale Centre.

It has been designed by Manchester architect The Harris Partnership and will be built by Belfast-based Gilbert Ash.

It is part of a larger development master-planned by Harris on behalf of developer JAP (Morecambe) that will see the Arndale expanded to incorporate the Travelodge and extended by 4,000 sq ft.

The Travelodge will have 60 bedrooms, along with retail and leisure space on the ground level.

Ben Battye, associate director for The Harris Partnership, said: “Now that a contractor has been appointed, we are closer to the realisation of this really exciting project which will significantly increase the leisure and retail offering of the town.

“The whole design team has put a great deal of thought into the design to ensure that the new facilities complement the existing shopping environment and maximise the use of space. We anticipate that work will start on site in mid November 2010. This would give Morecambe a quality budget hotel in time for the peak summer season and would be of great economic benefit to the town in general.”
