Sanguine to open new hotel at Birmingham’s Cube

SANGUINE Hospitality is to build a new £10m hotel and health club in Birmingham city centre.

The Liverpool-based company, which operates a number of Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn hotels for Intercontinental Hotels Group, as well as operating several of its own ventures, said the “boutique-style” hotel would feature a spa, restaurant amd a new Marco Pierre White skyline restaurant offering 360 degree views of the city.

The 52-bed hotel will transform floors 23 and 24 of the Cube into a 52-bed hotel known as Indigo. Its health club and Spa will operate on the bottom two floors of the building and feature a wet area comprising a hydrotherapy pool, five thermal treatments rooms, a state-of-the-art gymnasium and a ten-room luxury spa.

The deal with Birmingham Development Company is Sanguine’s first venture in the West Midlands and has been funded by Downing Corporate Finance and Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets.

Nick Taplin, managing director of Sanguine Hospitality, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have secured such a significant development opportunity in such a high profile destination.

“As one of the country’s most distinct and recognised buildings, The Cube will be our flagship operation and provide a platform for us to put Birmingham on the map for providing excellent accommodation, food and leisure facilities.”

Marco Pierre White said: “Birmingham is a fantastic city with a rich history and diverse social tapestry, plus an eclectic flavour of personalities to match.

“The Cube represents everything that’s exciting about today’s Birmingham – fresh, innovative and forward-thinking – and was the undisputed choice for my first venue in the city.”
