Liverpool agency Cleversteam awarded Edge Hill Graduate Employer of the year

Cleversteam, a digital agency based in Liverpool City Centre, has been awarded Edge Hill University’s coveted Graduate Employer of the year.

The tech company were awarded the 2017 prize at a ceremony that recognises contributions of students, employers and alumni towards supporting graduate careers on Tuesday evening.

Daniel Nicolson, Managing Director of Cleversteam, accepted the accolade. “We have enjoyed a healthy relationship with Edge Hill over a number of years in employing graduates, working closely with the University to help shape the content of courses and giving students placement opportunities.”

“The region has a thriving digital economy and it’s never been more important for both companies and higher education institutes to work together to ensure young people are setup to enter the workplace and we don’t lose the best talent to London or further afield.”

“We are proud of our work with Edge Hill and are delighted it has been recognised with this award.”

Previous winners of the award include Everton FC In The Community and e-commerce giant The Hut Group.

Michael Banford, Business Development Manager of the institute’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences said: “Cleversteam work with us as an industry partner to provide us with key insights and perspectives which filter into curriculum, research and enterprise areas.”

Cleversteam build bespoke web applications alongside maintaining a suite of web based products used by organisations around the globe.

UK based clients include Sport England and Becky Adlington’s Swim Stars Academy and they boast customers across the United States.

They’ve worked with Edge Hill University to set coursework for computing students, sat on panels to shape degree content and employed many graduates.

Tech Director Mike Hart graduated from Edge Hill in 2010. “I joined Cleversteam seven years ago as a programmer and today I oversee all technical operations. I am honoured we have been selected to win this award and I am pleased I can work with my old university in a positive way.”

Dave Walsh, Senior Lecturer for the Department of Computer Science at Edge Hill, said “Cleversteam take every opportunity to engage with our student cohorts and provide the students with motivation, encouragement and a sense of reality with regards to the industry the students are heading into.

“They have donated their time, knowledge and energy continually for nothing more than to give back and to help the next generation of entrants into their industry.”
