Liverpool tile manufacturer has work shown at top German art festival

Liverpool’s bespoke tile manufacturer, Tile Fire, was chosen to work with the London based artists, Peles Empire, on their commission for Skulptur Projekte. The Skulptur Projekte is one of Germany’s top art festivals held in the western German city of Münster every ten years. The festival, which first started in 1977, brings works of art from artists all over the world to the galleries and streets of Münster.

The installation, which measures some 8 metres in height is made up of individual A3 sized tiles, is located in a car park in the heart of the city’s historic centre. The tiled façade of the installation shows an image of the crumbling terrace of the Romanian royal castle of Pele?, as well as the supports which prevent it from collapsing. Each tile is produced in black and white to replicate a photocopier effect.

Tile Fire Director, Andrew Cousins, commented, “It’s been a pleasure to work on such a prestigious art project. The brief from Peles Empire required us to produce a bespoke tile size not readily available in the ceramic industry. So we produced a new one – a service that most companies wouldn’t be able to offer.”

The Skulptur Projekte runs until 1st October.
