Merlin Entertainments, which operates Blackpool Tower and Madame Tussauds, has unveiled a new offering for birthday party groups at its SEA LIFE attraction in the resort.

Aquarists at the popular seafront aquarium have put together a series of packages to appeal to different age groups for the ultimate birthday adventure for underwater explorers.

Budding David Attenboroughs and their friends can now enjoy a real birthday party to remember, including:

  • An expedition through the aquarium, exploring British marine life and what visitors can find on our local shores, a stingray adventure, delving into a rainforest and even examining a coral reef.
  • Or, for older children, the chance to become aquarists for the day, wearing SEA LIFE lab coats and investigating the deadliest, fastest, biggest and most unusual animals in the aquarium.
  • And the highlight for either package will be the chance to lead a group of friends through the amazing ocean tunnel, surrounded by over 20 sharks – including Boris, the incredible Bowmouth Guitar shark – as well as large stingrays and other marine life.

Scott Blacker, head aquarist at SEA LIFE Blackpool, said: “We can offer some fantastic options for truly memorable birthday parties. The packages are fantastic and are specially tailored for groups of children aged between five and nine or between eight and 12.”

The new ‘Underwater Explorer’ package is available for younger children, while the ‘Underwater Extreme’ package will appeal to older children.

Both packages include a dedicated SEA LIFE Blackpool VIP tour, with one of the knowledgeable aquarists explaining to the group about all the remarkable creatures they’ll encounter and helping them to spot different species of fish and marine life?even when they’re cunningly disguised among the rocks and sandy ocean floor.

Plus the chance to get really close to marine life and touch creatures in brilliant rock pool area. And even being able to feed some of the sharks or stingrays, subject to the time of day

Matthew Titherington, general manager at SEA LIFE Blackpool, explained: “We can promise the children, as well as parents and adults accompanying them, a unbelievable experience, getting up close to over 20 sharks, along with a huge range of other marine life from British shores and oceans across the world.

“There’s a dedicated party room for opening presents and you can even bring your own birthday cake,” added Matthew Titherington.  “Every child receives an ‘underwater mission’ badge and a party bag, which typically includes pop badges, a stationery set and a SEA LIFE Blackpool key ring.”

For teenagers, there are awesome options to snorkel and cage dive with sharks, feed sharks and stingrays or become a shark keeper for the day. For more details on any of the adventures, please visit www.visitsealife.com/blackpool.
