The Blackmore Group acquires new Preston site.

Land at Chapel Hill, Longridge. This is residential development land overlooking Alston

Reservoirs on the fringes of Longridge, 8 miles north east of Preston at the western end of Longridge Fell, a long ridge above the Ribble Valley. The location of the land is quite stunning with views over the three reservoirs and the Ribble valley.

Cromwell stayed here before the battle of Preston against the Monarchist Loyalists from Scotland; but most development has been since 1800. The demand for stone from Longridge’s quarries led to the opening of the Preston and Longridge Railway in 1840 to carry the stone away, for use in such places as Lancaster town hall and Liverpool Docks.

The arrival of the railway led to the opening of several cotton mills and the town grew considerably larger from the mid-19th century. The mills and quarries have now all closed, although stone quarried in the town was used to construct the M55 motorway in the 1970s

The town is home to 11 pubs, several restaurants, a public library, and a number of primary and high schools. It is also home to an Air Training Corps squadron and an Army Cadet Force detachment. Longridge is also the location of a residential adult college operated by Lancashire Adult Learning.

Preston is 8 miles away whilst the cities of Liverpool and Manchester are less than an hour by car. Major rail links at Preston and Airports at Liverpool and Manchester provide easy access to the rest of the UK and to international destinations.

The original planning permission was for 54 houses with 30% of these qualifying for the governments affordable housing scheme. New legislation has reduced this number to a maximum of 20%. The bulk of the houses are 3 and 4 bed houses but there are a few 2 bed and 3 bed apartments particularly with the affordable elements.
