South Yorkshire has the right climate for business, says Lloyds TSB
9th June 2008
MORE than 150 people from South Yorkshire's business and professional community attended the formal launch last night of Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets' new South Yorkshire office.
The award-winning Winter Gardens were the setting for an evening of celebration, fundraising, and entertainment. Guests included John Mothersole, Chief Executive of Sheffield City Council, Gordon Bridge, Master Cutler and Chief Executive of Rotherham-based engineering specialists AESSEAL, as well as numerous directors from the area's leading businesses, manufacturers, accountancy and law firms.
Guests assembled at the St Paul's Hotel before moving into the Winter Gardens, where they enjoyed entertainment and hospitality against the backdrop of one of the most impressive glass houses to be built in the last hundred years.
During the course of the evening a charity raffle and auction were held, with almost £3,500 raised as a donation to the Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice, which provides care for children suffering from life limiting and life threatening conditions - as well as support for their families.
At the end of the event Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets' Simon Banham, Director and Head of Large Corporate Yorkshire and Humberside, spoke about the achievements of Sheffield and the cities of South Yorkshire over the last decade, and why there was every reason to be optimistic about the future.
Simon Banham said: "South Yorkshire is rich in talent and full of determination. The journey over the last two or three decades has been remarkable. Despite the current pessimism about the wider economy, the regeneration and transformation of this region is set to continue.
"These Winter Gardens are a testament to this local success and the perfect environment to welcome in our new team in Sheffield. The City and its neighbours have the exactly right climate for businesses to continue to flourish, and Lloyds TSB will be here to nurture and help local companies consolidate and grow."
Mark Wilcockson, Relationship Director at the new Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets office in Church Street, commented, "We're delighted to have an office here dedicated solely to South Yorkshire.
Since we opened for business in March we've been busy strengthening our ties with companies in the region, getting to know new businesses, and working more closely with local professionals. So our reception in the Winter Gardens was a great opportunity to formally celebrate the continued success of the region and our presence here, with old and new friends alike."
Andrew Aisthorpe, Relationship Director in Sheffield, added, "This was an exceptional evening, great fun and really enjoyable for all. But there's a serious side to it too - a chance to share our vision of the future. Market conditions have been unsteady of late, but Lloyds TSB, acclaimed Bank of the Year again in 2008, has shown that it is the bank to support, nurture and grow business in testing times."
