Morgan Sindall wins £50m construction contracts

A WARWICKSHIRE construction and infrastructure company has been awarded two contracts in the education sector worth £50m, it announced today.

Rugby-based Morgan Sindall will be working with the University of Reading and North Lanarkshire Council to redevelop halls of residence and build a new school and community centre.

The £28m contract with the Berkshire institute will see Morgan Sindall carry out the second phase of redevelopment of the university’s student accommodation, constructing two new halls of residence to create nearly 900 study bedrooms.

Work will start in March and is expected to complete by July 2012.

Morgan Sindall said today it had been awarded the contract as one of the university’s construction partners in a four-year redevelopment framework worth circa £200m.

The second contract is a £22m award from North Lanarkshire Council as part of its £250m Schools and Centres 21 programme.

The firm will build the Chryston High School and Cultural Centre in Chryston, near Glasgow.

The new school building will include 50 classrooms and practical rooms, a games hall, a fitness studio and an all-weather sports pitch while the cultural centre will replace a local library and community hall.

Work is expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2012 autumn term.
Morgan Sindall Group chief executive Paul Smith said: “We are delighted to enhance our working relationships with both these clients, which further cements our position as one of the leading education contractors in the UK.”
