Shakespeares name returns to Midlands law scene

A MIDLANDS law firm is rebranding itself following a merger of three practices last summer.

Shakespeares is the new trading name for Shakespeare Putsman in Birmingham, Berryman in Nottingham and the Birmingham, Stratford and Cotswolds locations of Needham & James.

Shakespeare Putsman was formed from the merger of Shakespeares Solicitors and Putsmans in 2007 which was followed by a merger with Needham and James last June and Berryman in November. The firm now employs 420 people with annual revenues of £28m.

Shakespeares chief executive Paul Wilson said: We have taken some time to decide if we should continue with our three constituent brands, each with a strong reputation and heritage in their local markets.

“After a lengthy consultation with our clients and staff, and bearing in mind the significant changes sweeping through the legal services markets, we have decided that now is the right time to bring our identity under one name to drive our business across the region.

“The Shakespeares brand name was first used by one of the constituent parts of our firm in the centre of Birmingham in the 1850s.

“As the new name of our expanded firm, we feel it captures both our huge affinity with the Midlands region, and our ambition to continue to grow an entrepreneurial business providing legal solutions to the region.”
