Homegrown talent helps support year-on-year growth for Mazars in Birmingham

The Birmingham office of accountancy and advisory firm Mazars recorded year-on-year growth in fee income of 14% in 2016.

The growth in fee income was matched by a 14% increase in headcount at its office in the city’s business district. Much of the expansion derives from the promotion of homegrown talent, the firm has said.

As of August 31, 2016, the Birmingham office headcount stood at 155 – up from 136 the previous year.

Mazars now occupies the whole of the tenth floor of 45 Church Street and has expanded into space on the building’s eighth floor to enable it to meet the increasing demand for its services.

In 2016, the Birmingham office made significant progress in fee income across Tax (+44.97%), Governance, Risk and Internal Control (+41.5%) VAT (+36.3%) and Corporate Finance (27.93%).

Lee Cartwright, Birmingham office managing partner, said: “This was a great financial year for our operations in the West Midlands.

“We continue to grow and have made significant progress in recruiting talent and promoting from within our own ranks.

“In the past 18 months, we welcomed four of our colleagues into partnership – James Hurst (VAT), David Preston (Transaction Services), Louis Burns (Audit) and Vesko Petkov (Tax).”

In the current financial year, the firm has already recruited 13 trainees, he added.

The trainees have been introduced across many service lines with the recruitment extending to school leavers, placement students and graduates.

Mr Cartwright said the Birmingham office’s focus was now to continue with its growth, a strategy likely to result in further recruitment in the near future.
