Birmingham building services group secures £7m London contract

The Caledonian Road development

Birmingham-based building services provider J S Wright has secured a new contract worth than £7m for an ongoing project in London.

The company, which is headquartered in Aston and has offices in London and Bristol, will fit out a mix of 252 new homes, including 82 affordable homes, at the new Caledonian Road mixed-use development in Islington.

J S Wright will supply and install a central energy centre with a combined heat and power boiler for the one-bed to three-bed apartments in a landmark series of pastel-hued buildings of up to 11 storeys arranged around an attractive courtyard.

The company will also equip each apartment with a heating interface unit to deliver low pressure hot water heating and boosted cold water, as well as provide underfloor heating, dry risers  and building management system controls throughout the scheme, which is being developed by London Square.

J S Wright will also team up with its electrical partner Wilton Electrics to install an automatic opening ventilator (AOV) system for car park fire and smoke detection and protection at the scheme, which will also have business and community units.

The firm, which earlier this year underwent a senior management buyout after the retirement of its previous owners, has already started work and the project is expected to complete in May 2019.

Marcus Aniol, managing director, J S Wright, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed by a new client to help transform this site into a major new mixed-use development, having successfully completed similar projects throughout London.”

J S Wright, which was founded in Birmingham in 1890, supplies services to the hotel, residential, social housing, student accommodation, leisure and commercial sectors.
