Brewery mulls £100m sale

Aston Manor Brewery is reviewing its options to fund its growth plans that could include a £100m sale of the business.

The cider maker, which produces a range of branded and own-label cider including Kingstone Press and Frosty Jack’s, has appointed Lazard to examine its options, it has been reported.

The Birmingham-based company is owned by former Aston Villa chairman Sir Doug Ellis and his family.

Aston Manor’s most recent accounts, for 2015, showed an 11% fall in sales to £108.7m. Despite the decline in sales, which followed a smaller fall the year before, the company outperformed the sector.

The manufacturer has its production and packaging facility in Birmingham, orchards in Worcestershire and Herefordshire and a further production and packaging facility at Tiverton in Devon.

It exports to more than 20 countries including America, Russia and a number of countries in Africa.

Aston Manor is shortlisted in the innovation category in the West Midlands Business Masters awards, for saving 1m litres of water through changes to its processes.
