Citrus launch adds zest to Coventry hotel sector

A hotel operator has selected Coventry as the location for the UK launch of its latest brand.

The Citrus Hotel Coventry is the eleventh property to be managed by Compass Hospitality in the UK.

The hotel, in Ryton-on-Dunsmore, was previously a Holiday Inn before being acquired by Compass.

Harmil Singh, president and CEO of Compass Hospitality, said the opening had much to do with the current health of the region’s hotel and hospitality sector, as well as customer response to the Citrus brand in Asia.

“We have observed healthy performance as we continue to expand our operations into the UK, and have grown a strong base onto which we are confident to introduce our Citrus brand. The Citrus brand is well represented amongst our hotels in Asia and we are optimistic that it will be well-received in the UK as well,” he said.

The 51-room hotel is being targeted at the business community due to its location between Coventry and Birmingham Airport, as well as the Middlemarch and Westwood Business Parks, plus the National Agricultural and Exhibition Centre (NAEC).

The operators are also hoping to tap into the weddings and events market.

Matthew Welbourn, Executive Vice President of Operations (UK), said “The Citrus Hotel Coventry is an exciting takeover for us; the hotel is a popular destination for business and leisure travellers alike, and provides generous amenities for a diverse business mix, including weddings, conferences and other functions.”

Compass brands include Compass Hotels, Citrus Hotels, Citin Hotels and Ananda Resorts and Spas.  In the UK, it also has hotels in Shrewsbury, Halifax, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Eastbourne, Nottingham, Oxford, Manchester, Inverness and Leeds.
