Cadbury’s legacy to be celebrated at Heritage Weekend

Locals will get the chance to discover the rich history behind the Cadbury legacy this weekend.

Cadbury World’s Heritage Weekend, taking place on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 May, will offer visitors the chance to explore the picturesque Bourneville village with a series of guided walks.

Visitors will discover where the Cadbury story began with the tours bringing George and Richard Cadbury’s story to life in the historic village that was built for factory employees in the late 1800s. The tour will explain the brothers revolutionary vision to build both a new factory and community, as well as improving the quality of life for the ordinary people of Birmingham.

Alternatively, visitors of all ages can enjoy a family fact-finding trail and explore the scenic Bournville Village at their own pace.

Alongside the tours, Cadbury World will be offering visitors the chance to discover more about the company’s heritage. In the reception area, visitors will find a live human statue of John Cadbury to help bring the magic of the past to life, before seeing a recreation of his first shop later in the Bull Street zone.

There will also be the chance to travel back 1,000 years to the Aztec Jungle to uncover the origins of the cocoa bean and take a trip down Advertising Avenue to relive some of Cadbury’s most iconic advertising campaigns; including everyone’s favourite drumming gorilla.

For an extra dose of nostalgia, chocolatiers in the Chocolate Making zone will be demonstrating traditional chocolate making skills.

During Heritage Weekend, visitors will also have the chance to have their photographs taken with the iconic Cadbury characters, as well as enjoy a range of family entertainment.

Diane Mitchell, marketing manager at Cadbury World, said: “We’re very proud of our Cadbury legacy and the return of Heritage Weekend is a chance for visitors to discover the story for themselves.

“It’s one of our most popular activities and allows visitors of all ages to step back in time and learn about the history of our home town and where the Cadbury story all began.”

For Cadbury World visitors looking to explore more Bournville history, visitors can continue on to Selly Manor Museum which is located in the Bournville Village, with their Cadbury World ticket.
