German medical group Schön Klinik has bought a Sutton Coldfield health facility that is the country’s second largest private treatment centre for young people with eating disorders.

Newbridge House National Centre For Eating Disorders has 28 beds for children and adolescents who require acute-care treatment.

The British Commission on Quality Assurance in the Health Sector recently categorized the treatment offered by the clinic as “excellent”.

Christopher Schön, chief operating officer of Schön Klinik, said: “Newbridge House fits very well into the existing sites and the quality philosophy of the Schön Klinik. The facility is complementary because the treatment of eating disorders is one of our special competencies in psychosomatic medicine.”

James Maxwell, associate director at KPMG and lead adviser on the deal, added: “This deal recognises the reputation that Newbridge has developed both in the UK and on the international stage, and secures the legacy of the business inside a larger, strategically complementary group.

“This transaction also reflects the continued interest we are seeing from international buyers, who are drawn to high quality operators in the UK market.”

The value of the deal has not been disclosed.
