Motorists are being warned of long delays in Warwickshire after the closure of a major route following a serious accident.

The A5 is currently closed in both directions near Rugby between the A426 (Cosford) and the A428 (Crick) due to a collision.

Highways England has said the incident is not expected to clear until at least 1pm to allow for recovery of the vehicles and repairs.

Diversions are in place but drivers have been advised to avoid the area if possible and to allow extra time for their journeys.

Elsewhere, there are still long delays on the M40 southbound between Junction 6 and 4, heading towards London after a clean up following a lorry shedding its load of plastic water bottles.

One lane remains closed and the incident is not expected to clear until around 1pm.
