Marg Randles, managing director and John Woodward, CEO, Busy Bees Nursery

Staffordshire children’s nursery group Busy Bees has expanded its UK presence with the acquisition of a Scottish childcare provider.

The Burntwood-based group has taken over New Town Nurseries, one of the longest established childcare providers in Edinburgh. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

It operates two nurseries in the Scottish capital and offers 140 places to children aged up to five years.

Busy Bees is the largest childcare provider in the UK which, including this acquisition, now operates 331 nurseries. Currently it employs and trains more than 8,000 staff and provides care for over 35,000 children.

The acquisition meets the group’s strategy of further expansion into Scotland and Edinburgh in particular. This latest acquisition takes the group to 19 nurseries across Scotland.

Marg Randles, managing director at Busy Bees Childcare, said: “We are delighted to welcome New Town Nurseries into the Busy Bees family. As one of the longest established nurseries in Edinburgh, the brand has a fantastic reputation for providing quality childcare and we can’t wait to start working with such an exceptional well respected team.

“We will be working very closely with the management team to understand the unique offering at each nursery and hopefully to share best practice but on a day to day basis it will be business as usual with the same staff providing the best opportunities for children.

“We will ensure that our parents are kept up-to date throughout the transition process, as we continue to improve the excellent care, resources and services New Town Nurseries currently provides.”
