Property Deals: Grand Hotel; Landchard House; Bell Court

High-end shoe brand Loake is to open its first store in Birmingham as part of the retail refurbishment of The Grand Hotel.

Loake has agreed a 10-year lease with landlord Hortons’ Estate for the 1,346 sq ft unit along the Colmore Row frontage.

The letting means the retail space at The Grand is now fully let.

Loake now has seven shops across the UK, including Bath, Chester, Leeds, London (Bow Lane and Jermyn Street), Edinburgh and Birmingham. It also has shops in Dublin, Czech Republic, Chile, Poland and Lebanon.

Steve Tommy, from Hortons’ Estate, said: “Loake is a distinguished brand with a long and successful heritage and we’re pleased it has chosen The Grand to open its first shop in Birmingham.

“We now have a full complement of retail tenants at The Grand, which includes Gusto, The Alchemist, Crockett & Jones, Cycle Republic, John Shepherd, The Liquor Store and 200 Degrees Coffee, and we look forward to welcoming Loake to the building.”

Andrew Loake said: “As Britain’s second city, Birmingham is an obvious choice and we believe that this location will give us the opportunity to introduce the brand to new customers as well as loyal followers of Loake.”

Loake is the second high-end shoe brand to take up residence at The Grand. In April, Crockett & Jones reopened its shop after it closed in 2015 to enable the redevelopment and restoration of the Grade II listed building.

During the redevelopment, Crockett & Jones opened a temporary shop in the Burlington Arcade, which it has now signed a new ten-year lease on with Hortons’ Estate.

Crockett & Jones is currently re-fitting the shop, which is due to re-open on Monday (June 26).

Wright Silverwood is letting agent for the retail space at The Grand and advised Hortons’ Estate on the letting to Loake.

Bell Court

Italian restaurant chain ASK is the latest business to sign up to Stratford-upon-Avon’s Bell Court development.

The 120-seat restaurant will overlook the main square of the new mixed-use scheme.

It will join other dining brands including Nando’s, Byron, Miller and Carter and All Bar One, as well as smaller outlets such as Italian wine café, Veeno and a number of independent retailers including new florist, Bardia’s and The Nail Dressers beauticians.

John Stacey, asset management director at UK & European Investments, said: “Having exchanged contracts, we expect to hand over the unit to ASK in July so they can fit out the restaurant and potentially open in September.”

The deal was completed by Time Retail Partners and Nashbond on behalf of UK & European Investments.

This announcement follows the successful launch of the Everyman Cinema at Bell Court.
