GB Plastics managing director Alan Sutherland

The son of the founder of family business GB Plastics has taken sole control of the Staffordshire business.

The £4m-turnover business was founded in 1990 by Janet Sutherland and her children Alan Sutherland and Wendy Hill have jointly led the business since 2008.

However Alan has now become GB Plastics’ managing director and sole shareholder, with Wendy combining a consultant role in the business with outside work.

Alan said: “We see our joint decision as the start of a new chapter and us all moving forwards in the same direction to ensure continued growth and success for the business and all our staff.”

GB Plastics supplies low maintenance building products to the trade and DIY sectors, has its head office in Rugeley and five other office and trade counters across the Midlands.

Technology lawyer Simon Jones has returned to Birmingham after he joined Squire Patton Boggs from Eversheds Sutherland.

 

Jones spent nearly four years as Eversheds’ head of technology in Leeds and the firm’s global head of automotive. He had previously been with DLA Piper in Birmingham for 13 years, where he rose to become head of technology and sourcing.

Stuart James, who leads the Birmingham intellectual property and technology practice at Squire Patton Boggs, said: “Simon has a very successful track record in advising on high profile IT and outsourcing projects in both the private and public sector.

“Held in high regard by his clients for his commerciality and technical expertise, Simon will be a great asset.”
