Global operator agrees deal for airport hotel

The 178-bedroom hotel planned for Birmingham Airport will be operated by Hilton Garden Inn, after the American hotel giant signed a franchise agreement.

The nine-storey hotel, which is being partly built off site, will be next to the airport’s administrative offices and is scheduled to open next year.

It will be Hilton’s ninth hotel in the West Midlands, and the second using the Garden Inn brand, joining the existing hotel in Brindleyplace, Birmingham.

The investment follows four years of strong growth in passenger numbers at the Airport, as well as robust performance of hotels across the city region.

“Often cited as the best place to invest in the UK outside of London, demand in Birmingham is growing fast,” said Patrick Fitzgibbon, Hilton’s European senior vice president of development.

“Infrastructure projects will only boost that growth and Hilton Garden Inn Birmingham Airport is in a terrific location – we can’t wait for it to open next year.”

The hotel is being developed by Wylam Investments’ subsidiary Castlebridge Group and will be built by Bowmer & Kirkland in partnership with CIMC Modular Building Systems.

Jenna Dienn, commercial director of Castlebridge Group, said: “We feel that this is a great time to be developing the hotel and restaurant due to the increase in passenger numbers and the airport expansion.

“The hotel is going to be a huge success and we look forward to the opening in the summer of next year.”

The hotel will be built using modular build technology that enables parts of the building, including guest rooms and corridors, to be manufactured in China and transported to site for final assembly.
