HomeServe boss named UK’s third highest rated CEO

Martin Bennett, CEO, HomeServe UK

The boss of Walsall-based home assistance group, HomeServe, has been named third in a list of the UK’s highest rated CEOs.

Martin Bennett beat industry leaders from many of the country’s top businesses.

The Glassdoor Highest Rated CEOs list recognises the top 50 CEOs in the country based on employee rating. It surveys 24,000 businesses across the UK.

Mr Bennett is also one of only eight CEOs to feature consistently on the table every year since Glassdoor began the rankings three years ago.

Among the chief executives recognised, Mr Bennett received a 96% approval rating based on the anonymous and voluntary reviews HomeServe employees shared on Glassdoor.

Mr Bennett said: “I’m honoured and humbled to be recognised by our amazing people and Glassdoor in this way.

“HomeServe has a unique and very special culture, which every single person is proud to be part of. Our people inspire me every day with their passion, and with their dedication to making life easier for our customers. We’ve been on an exciting journey over the past few years and I share this recognition with each and every one of them.”

Other West Midlands CEOs named in the Top 50 are: Philippa Jones (11th), of Birmingham-based social housing group, Bromford; Ian McCaig (16th), of Warwick-based First Utility; Tim Lee (32nd), of Alcester-based Helping Hands Home Care; and Ralf Speth (46th), of Jaguar Land Rover.

Mr Bennett became HomeServe CEO in 2014, and has steered the business through a difficult period following the damage caused to its reputation by a mis-selling scandal in 2011 and the big fine levied against it by the Financial Conduct Authority.

The transformation to the business since has seen it recognised for its customer satisfaction and high levels of employee engagement. It has grown its UK customer numbers to 2.2m.

This recognition follows the company being named by Glassdoor in December as one of the top three Best Places to Work in the UK, as well as being hailed as the Most Improved company in the UK for customer satisfaction in the services sector following independent surveys from the Institute of Customer Service.

Robert Hohman, Glassdoor co-founder and CEO , said: “CEOs tell us the Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Award is one of the highest honours they can receive because it truly reflects employee opinion about the job they do every day.”
