Jaguar confirms production of new compact SUV

Jaguar has confirmed that it is to produce a smaller version of its world-wide best-seller, the F-PACE crossover.

The Jaguar E-PACE will be unveiled next month.

The compact SUV will be the latest addition to Jaguar’s PACE family of performance SUVs and if it proves to be half as popular as its big brother then JLR will be very pleased.

The company took a major gamble when it opted to produce a Jaguar SUV – especially as the company has Land Rover as its stable-mate.

However, the F-PACE has taken the market by storm, quickly outstripping the XE, to become Jaguar’s fastest-selling model of all time. It has also been named World Car of the Year 2017.

Such has been its impact that it has helped boost Jaguar’s sales by a staggering 83% since going on sale last year.

The PACE family is set for further expansion next year when the company launches its all-electric I-PACE, billed as a family supercar.

The news is also a further boost to workers at the company’s Castle Bromwich plant, where demand for Jaguar’s new cars is pushing up production volumes to new records.

Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar, said: “The combination of sports car looks with Jaguar performance will ensure that the E-PACE stands out. Every Jaguar is designed to excite the senses, and we think E-PACE will do just that, albeit with its own individual character.”

The Jaguar E-PACE features sports car-derived AWD (all-wheel-drive) technology and an all-Ingenium line-up of petrol and diesel engines, as well as a suite of connected technology and safety features.

The new car will be revealed to the world on July 13. Until then, the company is keeping the design under wraps.

In its usual way, the company is giving away little until then and has released just one official teaser image although spy spots have been seen on the web for some time.

However, the car is expected to be very similar in style to the F-PACE and is likely to be a rival to Audi’s Q3 and the BMW X1, if not its Range Rover sibling, the Evoque.

There are now details on prices yet but there are predictions it will likely start in the sub-£30,000 range.
