On demand beauty app launches in Birmingham

A beauty app that offers users hair and make-up services direct to their home, or work, has launched in Birmingham after celebrating huge success in London.

blow LTD, which is the UK’s largest and fastest growing ‘on demand’ beauty services, gives locals the chance to order professional treatments to their home, office, hotel or event. The app allows users to book blow dries, manicures and make-up services direct to wherever they are, with appointments available daily from 7am until late.

blow LTD. was launched by entrepreneur Dharmash Mistry and former editor of ELLE and Grazia, Fiona McIntosh, in November 2013. The app’s success in the south has seen the business extend its services in London from ‘event ready’ blow dries, make-up services, and nails to maintenance and wellbeing services such as massages, waxing, and even yoga; providing a one-stop-platform for consumers and corporates a like.

The app provides a platform for beauty professionals to earn more money, provide flexibility and self-manage availability to work and accept nearby jobs.

Hannah Soll-Morris, head of expansion at blow LTD., said:  “Launching blow LTD in Birmingham is so exciting for us. We’ve already delivered over 120,000 expert services across London and the Home Counties, and expanding into the Midlands is the next step for us. With such a young and diverse population, and known for great shopping and culture, we couldn’t miss out on the action here in Birmingham at the moment.

“We know that time is tight but looking your best for that all-important meeting, event or date night, is what we’re here to do. Added to that, you can be re-assured that only the best will turn up at your door because quality and convenience sits at the heart of blow LTD.

“All of our beauty professionals are rigorously skills tested, vetted, CRB and insurance checked before they’re signed up, and only 10% of professionals who apply are invited to join the platform.”

What we thought…

For me, blow LTD is essentially a beauty version of Uber. I have spent years committed to the same beauty professionals, but I do find it difficult to treat myself to a manicure or a blow dry whilst working long days, and the salon being inevitably shut before I’ve even left the office.

So I was pleasantly surprised when I found myself sat in my kitchen, late on a Friday night, getting my nails done by a local beauty therapist. She told me how she works full time at a salon a few minutes away, and she works for blow LTD in her spare time and on evenings. She also came with what seemed like hundreds of nail polish options and offered advice on what would suit me best. I, of course, couldn’t help myself and had to enjoy a dashing of glitter on my nails.

I chose to treat myself to gel nails over the range of other beauty offerings as I wanted something that would last a few weeks. However, I did panic slightly at the thought of having a stranger in my home. But I soon found that not only did I not find it weird at all, I was happy of how convenient the process was and how relaxing it was.

My chosen beauty therapist was not only a lovely girl, she made herself at home, which I appreciated, and she also did a brilliant job. If like me, you struggle to find spare time to treat yourself, blow LTD is well worth a go, and you’re only paying the same amount of money that you will pay in a salon.
