The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) has appointed Worcestershire County Council’s chief financial officer as its director of finance.

Sean Pearce, who began his career with PwC after graduating from Aston University, will work alongside Mayor Andy Street and incoming WMCA chief executive Deborah Cadman to drive forward a number of initiatives, including the delivery of a capital investment programmes.

He takes over from Mark Taylor, who led the finance teams on an interim basis.

Cadman said: “I am delighted we have found such a high quality officer to lead on our finance agenda, which is so vital to our future devolution journey.

“We can change people’s lives for the better if we seize the opportunities opening up in front of us and we want the best people around us to do that.”

Pearce has led the finance team at Worcestershire County Council for six years, working on the delivery of major transformation and change programmes against the backdrop of significant change and pressures on local authority finances.

He will join the WMCA this autumn.

He said: “I am looking forward to joining a dynamic and demanding team led by Deborah Cadman and working with all of the finance directors and chief financial officers from the constituent and non-constituent authorities to ensure the potential of the West Midlands region can be realised.”
