Review: Bistrot Pierre in Kidderminster

With Kidderminster’s restaurant options on the up, I was intrigued to see how Bistrot Pierre would stand up against the other new competition in the town. However, for this restaurant, there really is no competition.

I have been fortunate to dine at both Birmingham and Mere Green outlets of Bistrot Pierre. But I found the newly opened Kidderminster branch to be my favourite so far, and that’s not just because I’m staying true to my roots. The restaurant, although designed like the others, feels much more homely, warm and welcoming.

At 7pm on a Tuesday night, the restaurant was packed full of couples, birthday and retirement parties, which I was incredibly surprised about – I thought fun only existed on a weekend. Although busy, the restaurant still felt intimate and romantic thanks to the French inspired décor, music, and of course, the menu.

Me and my guest tucked into a bread basket and olives before choosing a starter. We went for the Camembert sharing starter, a real favourite of mine. It came with sourdough toast and red onion couture. It was absolutely delicious and the perfect start to the meal.

For mains, I went for the Boeuf Bourguignon Maison with shallots, red wine, mushrooms and bacon. My guest opted for the Poulet Printanier with asparagus, wild mushrooms, peas and truffle oil. To say that I was in food heaven would be a total understatement. They were created to absolute perfection and warmed me up on a rainy evening.

We enjoyed the meals with a side ordering of seasonal vegetables and Dauphinoise potatoes, another favourite of mine, which came served in two mini pans which were adorable.

We decided to share pudding as the mixture of camembert and dauphinoise potatoes had left us feeling very full. We opted for Posset aux fruits de la passion, which was passion fruit posset topped with a crumble crunch. It was the perfect pudding as it wasn’t too heavy and was incredibly refreshing.

Drinks wise, after enjoying an Aperol Spritz, the ultimate summer drink, I enjoyed a glass, or two, of Pinot and my guest opted for a pint of Leffe Blonde.

The restaurant was, by far, one of the best I have been to in a very long time. The service was impeccable and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The venue doesn’t feel as big as it’s other branches in the West Midlands, but it does have a very clever layout which separates it into three sections, making it feel like a huge place.

Not only was the food beautiful – the meu itself was a work of art and choosing what we wanted was a difficult task – the surroundings and dimly lit tables made the night very romantic and made me feel like I really could be sat in the heart of Paris next to the River Seine…instead of the River Stour.

The restaurant also has an upmarket feel, making it the perfect place to treat yourself or head to for a celebration.

Worcestershire folk – Bistrot Pierre is well worth a visit. However, go easy on the Camembert!
