Finance Director steps down after 19 years

David Harris

A Birmingham finance director is retiring from his role after 19 years with the business – although it won’t be the end of his involvement with the company.

David Harris originally joined Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care as a financial controller in 1998, rising to FD where he led a team of 16.

The 60-year-old now intends to swap his daily commute from Leamington Spa for a rural retreat in Mid Wales.

However, he is not severing all ties with the business. He has agreed to commit two days per month to the family-run business as a non-executive director.

Mr Harris said: “Scrivens is a very well-run company which has continued to expand and which has been incredibility supportive to me. I will miss the challenges of the job and the camaraderie. I’ve enjoyed being part of it and seeing how people I have worked with have grown in their skills and confidence.”

Mark Georgevic, Scrivens director, said: “David has made a major contribution to the company’s success; without his dedication, we would not be where we are today. He has led by example and inspired great teamwork in the finance department. We appreciate all David has done and wish him well in his retirement.”

Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care is a family run business which was established in 1938. It has 176 stores in England and Wales, employing more than 1,000 people.
