Exclusive retailer selects Birmingham as base for expansion

Mailbox, Birmingham

Retail facilities at Birmingham’s Mailbox are being improved following a decision by an exclusive British designer to choose the venue for its expansion into the Midlands.

Furniture and interiors retailer, Heal’s, plans to open within a 20,000 sq ft homewares hub later this autumn, in a move intended to boost the shopping and lifestyle offering at the mixed-use site.

Heal’s, established in 1810, operates five retail stores in London, Sussex and Yorkshire, as well as an online store, but the Mailbox outlet represents its first store in the Midlands.

Hamish Mansbridge, CEO at Heal’s said: “Birmingham is now recognised as one of the top shopping destinations in the UK, so Birmingham city centre and the Mailbox are the perfect platform for Heal’s to promote its premium retail offering to the Midlands region and its visitors.”

As well as its furniture, Heal’s is bringing its lighting, decorative accessories and kitchenware to the new store, which will champion some of the world’s most celebrated furniture and lifestyle brands, including Vitra, Case and Tom Dixon.

Heal’s will be joined by a collection of other homewares, furnishings and accessories retailers including MADE.COM and Danish brand BoConcept, Italian furniture specialist Calligaris, handmade furniture brand SITS, and upholstered furniture retailer Wesley Barrell.

“This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for Heal’s, giving us a new regional flagship store in the Midlands. This significant move shows the desire of local residents for beautiful, well-made pieces of furniture that will stand the test of time,” added Mr Mansbridge.

“The shop itself will be a unique retail space that will bring the best of our online offering to Birmingham.”
