Defence and energy supplier Ultra Electronics has secured major new orders for its aerospace division.

The company, which has operations in Birmingham and Staffordshire, said its Precision Control Systems (PCS) business, based in Cheltenham, had received contracts worth $16m from US aerospace giants Boeing and Lockheed Martin.

The contracts will see PCS supply additional tranches of its HiPPAG (High Pressure Pure Air Generators) stores ejection systems for use on front line US and international strike aircraft.

The systems are designed to meet the demanding requirements of precision ejection systems and provide flexibility of installation within ejector racks, aircraft pylons or in internal weapons bays on high-performance manned and unmanned military aircraft (drones) platforms.

The equipment is used on programmes such as: the F-35 Lightning II, BRU-61 Small Diameter Bomb carriage system, X-45 J-UCAS Demonstrator, F-15E Strike Eagle Cost Operational Support Savings Initiative (COSSI) SDD and is teamed with Raytheon for the BRU-69 Multi-Purpose Bomb Rack.

In an update to the markets announcing the deals, Ultra said that due to security considerations it was unable to provide any additional information in relation to the contracts.

Rakesh Sharma, chief executive of Ultra, said: “We are pleased to have extended our contracts with both prestigious Prime contractors. Our continued support of the US and international warfighters in their daily missions underscores the value of Ultra Electronics solutions which are fully accredited and proven effective.”
