Land deal clears way for new housing scheme to progress

The second phase of a new housing development in Worcestershire has begun following a successful land deal.

Developer and property investor, Barberry Developments, has sold the 20-acre site in Droitwich to housebuilder Taylor Wimpey.

The sale comes 18 months after Redrow acquired 25 acres from Barberry at the adjacent site at the Yew Tree Village development, off Yew Tree Hill.

The first phase of the development comprises 242 homes, while the second phase will provide a further 250 properties.

Martyn Cartwright, director of Barberry Developments, said: “We’re very pleased to have completed the sale to Taylor Wimpey, which is already building much-needed, high-quality properties on the second phase of the development and it is very good news for people looking for new homes in the area.”

Barberry is also in discussions with a number of interested parties for a three-acre mixed use development that has been earmarked for a care home and local centre.

Neil Ballett, Land & Planning Director for Taylor Wimpey West Midlands, said: “We are delighted to have completed the acquisition of land with Barberry and are now focused on delivering a brand new collection of 250 high-quality homes to Droitwich.”

Mr Cartwright said that the sale of the land was the latest completed as part of the company’s proactive expansion of strategic land acquisitions. This includes a 370-unit scheme in Swindon – subject to a current outline planning application; a 40-acre site on the edge of Kidderminster, which has now been identified for development in the draft Local Plan and, as part of a wider land consortium, an urban extension at West Cheltenham to comprise up to 45 hectares of employment land including a Cyber Business Park and 1,100 houses.
