Brindleyplace bosses prepare to brave the chocolate gunge tank

Business leaders in Birmingham are giving their staff the chance to get even with them by gunging them in liquid chocolate as part of a city charity’s latest fundraising.

Birmingham St Mary’s ‘Chocolate Gunge Tank’ at Brindleyplace Chocival is the city’s only chocolate festival.

Taking place Friday October 20 and Saturday October 21, employees can pull a lever which will cover their boss from head to toe in the goo.

Carl Potter, Senior Director at GVA, said: “With just over a week to go, colleagues and I are already counting down to when I get gunged. Whilst I’ve never done anything like this before, I thought it would be a good-natured, fun way of encouraging employees to raise money for such a worthy cause.”

Alongside GVA, representatives from EY, Park Regis, Brewin Dolphin, ACJ Accounting, Lloyds, DAC Beachcroft, Communities and Local Government, Deloitte, Deutsche Bank, Mazars, Santander, ADI, Rice Media, HSBC, Xoserve, FBC Manby Bowdler, Paycare, Marriot Hotels and more will all be taking the plunge for the charity.

All sponsorship will go towards Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice – one of Brindleyplace’s charity partners – which provides vital care and support to local families living with terminal illness.

Charlotte Anson, corporate partnerships manager at Birmingham St Mary’s, said: “I would like to thank all the bosses that have signed up so far, as well as the staff that have got behind them with sponsorship. It costs £22,000 to run our services each day and so every donation really does make a difference. All the money raised will go towards the Hospice, helping us reach even more individuals, families and carers living across Birmingham and Sandwell.”

Nathan Sanghera, Marketing and Events Executive at Brindleyplace, said: “It’s fantastic to see some of Birmingham’s biggest bosses get involved and sign up for the Chocolate Gunge Tank at this year’s Chocival. There’s going to be lots to see and do on the day – even if you’re not pulling the lever.

The Chocolate Gunge Tank will be in place between 3-5pm on Friday and 11am to 3pm on Saturday.

The festival is free to attend and will have a number of stalls selling indulgent and unusual chocolate products, as well as entertainment, live music and cookery demonstrations.
