Indian street food chain Mowgli has revealed the location of its new base in Birmingham.

The company revealed in the summer it was looking to expand its national footprint after securing £3.45m of private equity funding.

It has selected the high-profile Grand Central as its base in Birmingham.

It has agreed a lease on a 364m² unit with space for 128 covers. It is situated alongside Pho and Tapas Revolution.

Designed by founder and CEO Nisha Katona, the restaurant’s interior includes the chain’s trademark Mowgli ropes with a theme inspired by the broken-down temple behind her ancestral Varanasi home. The menu offers a selection of sharing plates including traditional tiffin boxes and the brand’s signature dish, Yoghurt Chat Bombs.

Birmingham becomes the chain’s fourth restaurant, ahead of a fifth scheduled for Leeds early in 2018.

Sarah Fox, Head of Restaurants and Leisure at Grand Central-owner Hammerson, said: “Grand Central is already home to a range of leading dining brands and the addition of Mowgli further strengthens this vibrant mix, bringing a new, exciting offer to both the centre and Birmingham.

“Attracting innovative and creative restaurants such as Mowgli is testament to Grand Central’s strength as one of city’s leading retail and leisure destinations.”

Nisha Katona, owner of Mowgli added: “We are thrilled to finally share what Mowgli is all about with the people of Birmingham. We are excited to grow the brand across the UK, and with its direct connection to the busy station and Bulling, Grand Central has proved to be the perfect location for our most southern site and the next stage in our countrywide expansion.”

Bruce Gillingham Pollard acted for Grand Central. Mowgli dealt directly.
