Chemicals group seals the deal on German acquisition

Chemicals group Norman Hay has acquired a German manufacturer as it looks to bolster the position of one of its main divisions.

The Coventry-based group has acquired the entire share capital of Internationale Metall IMPrägnier (IMP) and the assets of Ing. Hubert Maldaner.

Norman Hay said the acquisition strengthened the position of its Ultraseal International operation, which develops, manufactures and supplies impregnation sealants, equipment and services for sealing porosity and leak paths in die-cast, sintered and electrical components.

IMP and Maldaner (pictured) is a complementary business developing, manufacturing and supplying impregnation sealants and impregnation process equipment on a global basis, as well as providing impregnation services to customers in Europe through outlets in Langenfeld, Leipzig and Unterensingen.

Vic Bellanti, chief executive of Norman Hay, said: “This acquisition represents an excellent strategic fit with the Norman Hay business, further extending the group’s successful global impregnation product and service proposition, developing our customer base and strengthening our European manufacturing capability.”

Georg Janβen, managing director of IMP, said joining Ultraseal helped position the business as an industry leader.

“With a similar customer base and complementary knowledge and expertise, we have an excellent platform to build on and we believe the acquisition will provide us with many more opportunities in the future,” he said.

Markus Maldaner, managing director of Ing. Hubert Maldaner, said he was convinced the sale of the majority of its assets to Norman Hay, combined with the acquisition of the IMP sealant business, represented a positive step for the future for both its employees and customers.

Norman Hay operates in three main business areas: surface coatings, with Surface Technology and SIFCO; impregnation sealants, equipment and services with Ultraseal; which also encompasses the Sterr & Eder Group, from Landshut, Germany, and process plant and equipment with NHE.

The value of the deal has not been disclosed.
