Carillion bolsters board with experienced new director

Alan Lovell

Struggling construction and support services group, Carillion has bolstered its board with the appointment of an experienced new non-executive director.

Alan Lovell is widely experienced in the issues which now confront the Wolverhampton-based group as it looks to restore confidence in the business following its dire profit warning in the summer.

His appointment, which is with immediate effect, will see him serve on the Audit, Remuneration, Nomination, Sustainability and Business Integrity Committees.

Mr Lovell’s extensive executive career has included several chief executive roles, including at Infinis, Costain Group and Jarvis. Carillion said all these roles saw him working with companies at times of financial stress and in turn around.

He is also currently chairman of the Consumer Council for Water, Flowgroup and the Association of Lloyd’s Members (ALM).

In addition, he is a Deputy Lieutenant of Hampshire, chairman of the Mary Rose Trust, chairman of the Board of Governors of Winchester University and a Trustee of Winchester Cathedral.

Commenting on the appointment, Carillion chairman Philip Green said: “We are very pleased that Alan Lovell has joined the board. He has very relevant experience of the challenges currently faced by Carillion and I look forward to his contribution as we move forward with our disposal and cost saving programmes while continuing our discussions with our lenders and other stakeholders to explore further ways of strengthening Carillion’s balance sheet.”
