IT business makes strategic acquisition

A leading IT business with operations in Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester has made a strategic acquisition as it looks to strengthen its position in the UK market.

CACI supplies a diverse range of information systems and marketing solutions to organisations in both the private and public sectors.

It has acquired Surrey-based IT services provider Spargonet Consulting. The terms of the deal, which was part advised in Birmingham, have not been disclosed.

CACI said adding Spargonet’s extensive capabilities in application management, mobile computing and business intelligence to its own services significantly expanded its offering.

Spargonet, based in Egham, has a well-established industry reputation in providing managed services and IT consulting services to firms in the retail, automotive, finance and technology sectors. Clients include Waitrose, John Lewis, BMW, Mastercard and Inmarsat.

The acquisition comes after Tony Spargo, CEO and founder of Spargonet, revealed his intention to retire from the business.

Greg Bradford, chief executive of CACI, said: “The acquisition of Spargonet strengthens our capabilities by adding greater Microsoft, business intelligence and mobile computing skills which ensures we can provide a full range of IT services to the largest and most complex organisations in the UK including the Spargonet customer base of highly valued brands.”

Mr Spargo added: “CACI is a leader in provision of information systems to sectors both public and private across the UK. Joining the company is a great opportunity to enhance the services offered to clients, with complementary service offerings which will better solve crucial challenges for customers in managing information and improving performance.

“The strong cultural fit between CACI and Spargonet became apparent from the very beginning of the deal process and we have no doubt that this will translate into a successful integration and future as part of CACI.”

CACI has offices at Birmingham Business Park, plus Leeds, Manchester and various other locations around the UK.

CACI was advised on the acquisition by Gateley, whose cross-discipline team was led by Corporate partner Andrew Peddie, supported by Corporate solicitor Lisa Faragher, Real Estate legal director Vijay Patel and Tax senior associate Simon Slade, alongside Employment partner Benedict Gorner and Employment solicitor Kate Fellows.

Mr Peddie said: “This acquisition is a great fit for CACI and one in line with their company values. We’re pleased to have been able to support CACI throughout this transaction and have no doubt that the integration with Spargonet will be a success.”
