Italian restaurant group Gusto is to open its third West Midlands site in less than 18 months after confirming a £1m investment in a site in Sutton Coldfield.

A 156-cover restaurant will open on the corner of the £12m Mulberry Walk leisure and retail development at Mere Green, creating 60 jobs.

Gusto’s managing director Sue Crimes said: “This is a very exciting time for Gusto. Our Birmingham Colmore Row restaurant continues to be tremendously successful and we felt the time was right to further expand within the suburbs of the city.

“Mere Green is a really exciting development for us. We believe our restaurant ethos clearly meets the demographics of the area.”

The group, which is backed by Palatine Private Equity, opened sites in Leamington Spa and Birmingham city centre last year as part of its strategy of doubling the number of locations within five years.

Its 4,000 sq ft Mere Green restaurant is scheduled to open on November 30.
