A high profile musical due to start its touring run in Birmingham has been shut down, with the production company on the brink of liquidation.

Heaven on Earth, based on the story of Adam and Eve, had been scheduled to star Kerry Ellis and tenor Russell Watson and was due to play five months of arena dates across the UK.

The musical was scheduled to kick off its nationwide tour at Arena Birmingham between December 4-7 and then tour around the UK before concluding with four nights at the SSE Arena at Wembley in May 2018.

Production company Eden International is believed to have told the cast that the tour will now not go ahead and rehearsals have been cancelled.

The company is thought to have been facing financial problems after planned funding failed to materialise.

Corporate recovery and business advisory firm Quantuma has been appointed to handle the liquidation of Eden International Productions.

Quantuma partner Chris Newell said: “It is a shame that the proposed funding has not come through which has resulted in the need for the company to cease trading.

“However, we are open to hearing from potential future investors with the aim to resurrect the show in some capacity.”
