Peter Kay chooses Birmingham for first live dates in eight years

Comedian Peter Kay is set to return to Birmingham for his first live tour in eight years.

Kay has chosen the Genting Arena as the first date for his new tour, which kicks off next April.

Fresh from the end of his Car Share TV series, he will take to the stage at the arena on April 21 and 22 before embarking on dates around the UK and Ireland, right through until 2019.

His last tour in 2010, which still officially ranks with the Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest selling comedy tour of all time, played to more than 1.2 million people.

So why a return to stand-up now?

He said: “I really miss it. I know how lucky I am to be making television series and have really loved these past few years working on Car Share but I miss doing stand-up.

“As terrifying as it is, when it works there’s nothing more fun and exciting. Plus, a lot has happened in the last eight years, with Trump, Twitter and my nan getting her front bush trimmed at the age of 96. I can’t wait to get back up on stage.”

Tickets for the Genting Arena dates are on general sale from 10am on Sunday (November 19).

Due to the adult content of the show, tickets are limited to those aged 15 or over.
