National law firm Weightmans, which has an office in Birmingham, has revealed record half year results.

The firm, which has its base at St Philips Point, achieved revenue growth of 7.3% on the corresponding period last year at £44m.

It is the first set of financial results since the introduction of a new structure and strategy in May this year.

Managing Partner John Schorah said: “We are extremely proud of our results for half year, our best to date which set us on course for further growth over the coming months.

“When we introduced a new strategy in May, growth and success for both ourselves and our clients were central to its implementation and execution and these results are a testament to that.”

The restructuring saw the firm move on from its former business line layout with the introduction of a new Client Relationships arm, encompassing six key client markets. The intention being to offer a full spread of services to customers within the insurance, public bodies, corporates, owner-managed businesses, built environment and private client sectors.

The board was also restructured in response to this new approach; with John Schorah remaining managing partner but senior partner Dan Cutts taking on the role of Director of Client Relationships alongside his current position. Andrew Cooper, former Head of Public Sector became Director of Legal Operations – Claims. Stuart Jones, former Head of Employment became Director of Legal Operations – Litigation, Transaction and Advisory. Stuart Whittle took on the role of Director of Business Services.

As part of the new strategy the firm also made a significant financial investment in technology, implementing innovative platforms 3E® and MatterSphere® to provide a more efficient service and solutions for clients.

The announcement of the record results coincides with the arrival at the firm of a new Group Finance Director.

Bob Granger, who has joined the firm from housewares retailer Lakeland, has been tasked with ensuring the firm continues on its growth trajectory.

Mr Granger was Finance and Retail director at Lakeland for 13 years, helping the firm make the transition into a digitally focused and international business.

His career spans retail, technology, hospitality and professional services, having also worked at Vodafone and PwC in a number of senior finance roles.

Mr Schorah said: “Bob’s arrival is another representation of this (new) strategy in action – with his background he brings a fresh, commercial perspective and outlook to the firm and has the experience, track record and drive we need for such a pivotal role.”
