Birmingham retailer expands distribution arm with £300,000 investment

Lee Longlands expansion

Birmingham furniture retailer Lee Longlands has expanded its distribution operation following a £300,000 investment.

The company, whose flagship store is based in Broad Street, has taken out 23,000 sq ft of warehouse space at a facility in Minworth, increasing its storage capacity by 8,000 sq ft.

The firm said the extra capacity was necessary to enable it to achieve growth targets for next year.

Besides the additional capacity, the new facility features the latest logistics picker technology and will help the company achieve a lower carbon footprint.

Managing director Darren Campo said the new facilities would enable the firm to surpass its current delivery rate of 20,000 customer orders a year.

Mr Campo said: “This £300,000 investment was made with our employees and our home at heart. Having set up in the Midlands over 100 years ago, and trading from here ever since, we wanted to ensure that we were giving back to both the economy and the people of the region.

“We’re constantly looking to improve our customer service, employee working practices and the efficiency of the business. The new facility means quicker delivery times, a lower carbon footprint, and ensures we’re looking after our employees to the very highest standards.”

Sister brand Furniture Barn will also be distributed from the Minworth warehouse, supplying stores in Sheffield, Doncaster and Grantham.

Sutton Coldfield’s Deputy Mayor, Cllr Derrick Griffin is pictured with Lee Longlands staff at the official opening of the new warehouse.
